Note that in my screenshot there are 4 different packages called "Gestural Navigation Bar" - perhaps AVG counts them as one, whole Avast counts them as four. The difference between Avast and AVG would most likely be down to how they each count different things. So the reason for the disparity between Avast and system settings will be primarily these background packages. The rest are all either behind-the-scenes stuff (Fused Location, Google Location History) or apps without Launcher icons that only pop up when triggered by something else (Gboard, Google Assistant). Out of 13 packages shown, only "Gmail" and "Google" are apps I can launch by normal means. These might include replacement keyboards, for example.īut by far most of the other packages will be system software. There are a ton of "packages" installed on any Android system.Įvery single app that appears in your app drawer/home screen is one package, but there are a lot more.Ī small number of third party apps can be installed (from Play Store or anywhere) without creating a Launcher icon.
